Short Description
The kidneys play an essential role in several processes in our body including volume and osmo-regulation, electrolyte balance, and the excretion of metabolites and drugs. Over the years a successful Renal Disorder Team has developed in Nijmegen. This clinical  and pre-clinical research collaboration in which the departments of Physiology, Pharmacology, Paediatrics, Nephrology, Pathology  and Genetics participate, studies the development and regulation of these processes in the kidney to understand the physiology  and pathogenesis of, to diagnose and to ultimately cure or prevent, related kidney disorders. The corresponding disorders include  acquired and inherited forms of kidney diseases and congenital anomalies of the urogenital tract. The research projects are carried out on the genetic (gene defects, polymorphisms), molecular (transport proteins), cellular (glomerular and epithelial cells), preclinical (whole animals, in vivo) and clinical level. The results of fundamental and clinical research are integrated. This 3 day CME will be an opportunity to update nephrologists and others on recent progress in the management and treatment of  patients with inherited forms of renal fluid and electrolyte disturbances. This workshop is being organized under the auspices of  the ERA-EDTA scientific working group, WGIKD, with the participation of members of the steering group of the EDTA Gitelman consortium.
